Options and Specs
Here's some information on the usual woods, hardware, and options for my resonator and Hawaiian guitars. Some of the options have links to photos—let me know if you'd like to see anything else and I'll try to get some pictures up for you. Also, just because you don't see it here doesn't mean I won't do it. Feel free to run your ideas for custom instruments by me anytime.
All of my instruments are made from solid woods.

  • Koa

    Standard with your resonator guitar:
  • Hardshell Case
  • Schaller tuners
  • Genuine Quarterman cone
  • #14 Spider
  • Ebony fret board
  • Bone nut
  • Ebony-capped maple bridge inserts
  • Sound post and baffle construction
  • Chrome-plated brass Fan or Lyre coverplate
  • Your choice of F-holes, chrome-plated brass sound-hole screens , or "screenless" rings.
  • Metal frets
  • Clinesmith headstock logo
  • Mother of Pearl or Abalone dot inlay
  • Ivoroid binding (black, white, tortoise)
    Purflings, Binding, and Inlays
  • Purflings are needed to visually set off the binding from the guitar: herringbone on a spruce top or thin black purfling on a guitar with wood binding.
  • Herringbone purfling (+ $100)
  • Other purflings (+ $100 per side)
  • Top, back, side, and neck purflings (thin black or thin black/white/black (+ $150)
  • Inlayed wood frets (+ $100)
  • Wood Binding: curly maple, curly koa, walnut, etc. (+$100)
  • Back stripe (+ $50)
  • Diamond Inlay (+ $150)
  • Custom inlays by quote (please have design submitted before construction of your guitar begins)

  • Clinesmith fretboard logo (+ $150)
  • Schertler Basik pickup with preamp (+ $300). This is the only pickup I recommend--I think it's hands-down the best pickup for resonator guitar.
  • Schertler UNICO amp with your Clinesmith guitar (list: $1399; call for discounted price)
  • Schertler David amp with your Clinesmith guitar (list: $999; call for discounted price).
  • 7- or 8-string resonator guitar (+ $200)
  • Deluxe Calton Case instead of regular hardshell case (+ $900)
  • Gold or black hardware (coverplate, screens, tailpiece, and tuners) (+ $250)
  • Ebony buttons for Schaller tuners (+ $50)
  • Waverly tuners (+ $100 and up)
  • Rare and absurdly expensive woods (by quote)
